
Work Permit Extension
If a Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW)’s work permit is about to expire, they can apply to extend it under different circumstances for different types of work permits. The extension must be applied at least 30 days before the expiry of their current work permit.
Employer Specific Work Permits
You can apply to extend or change conditions on this type of work permit when:
- Your job is extended.
- There are changes such as pay raise, increased job duties etc.
- You want to change your employer.
- There is a different job offered to you.
Open Work Permits
If you are on an open work permit, you can always apply to extend it as long as you are still eligible to work in Canada with an open work permit.
Bridging Open Work Permit
Bridging open work permit (BOWP) is an option available to some permanent residence applicants. The most basic eligibility criteria for BOWP is that you should already be working in Canada on a valid work permit. You are only eligible for a BOWP if you have applied for permanent residence under one of the programs listed below. These programs are:
- PNP
- Express Entry
- Agri Food Pilot
- Home Child-Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot
- Caring for Children or Caring for People with High Medical Needs
