Visitor Visa Extension
A foreign national’s stay as a visitor in Canada is 6 months by default but this can vary as per the discretion of their respective immigration officer dealing with them at the Port of Entry (POE). If you want to extend your stay in Canada, you need to apply to extend your stay at IRCC. If approved, you are not issued a new visa but a document called visitor record.
A visitor record gives you status as a visitor and has a new expiry date. However, you must apply for visitor record at least 30 days before your current status expires. Also, A visitor record does not authorize re-entry to Canada.
Who else can apply ?
Visitor record is not just limited to visitors. International students or workers whose status is expiring or who wish to change their status can apply to change their status to a visitor. If approved, they are also issued a visitor record.
